As the curtain closes on the 8th grade basketball season, we want to take a moment to congratulate the Motown Magic and all the student-athletes who helped elevate the level of middle school basketball this year. The growth, competitiveness, and maturity displayed throughout the season truly set a new standard for 8th grade hoops.

A special salute goes out to Iroquois on an incredible undefeated 11–0 season—a remarkable accomplishment that deserves recognition. Shoutouts as well to Algonquin, L’Anse Creuse South, L’Anse Creuse East, L’Anse Creuse Central, and Richards, all of whom contributed to a strong, competitive landscape that pushed every team to get better.

Motown Magic Claims MWA 8th Annual 14U Boys Division Championship

Capping off the season in dominant fashion, Motown Magic captured the championship at the MWA 8th Annual 14U Boys Division Tournament. The boys put together a complete team performance, defined by selfless basketball, disciplined execution, and relentless, tenacious defense from start to finish.

Tournament MVP honors went to Benjamin Hefel, who delivered an outstanding weekend, averaging 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 steals per game, while shooting an impressive 76% from the floor. His efficiency and impact on both ends of the court were instrumental in securing the title.

Magic Spotlight: Daniel Bradford

Our Motown Magic Spotlight for the 8th Grade Middle School Season goes to Daniel Bradford, who exemplified excellence both on and off the court. Academically, Daniel performed at a President’s List level, setting the standard in the classroom. On the court, he established himself as the top guard on the top team.

Daniel displayed a rare balance of power and finesse, scoring at will, facilitating for teammates, and anchoring the defense with elite on-ball pressure and anticipation. His leadership and two-way play were key factors in securing an undefeated season and defining the identity of this group.
