Week 1 of league play is officially in the books, and what a start it was! We had a fantastic practice on Friday, and that momentum carried over into an outstanding performance on Saturday. The team’s shooting was off the charts, and while we usually expect a dominant win when we’re clearly the better team, this time was different—we didn’t just win, we made a statement with a 73-point victory! It’s safe to say we’ve set the tone as the team to beat in both leagues.
Our fourth game, scheduled for Sunday at Grosse Pointe Academy, ended in a forfeit due to our opponent not having enough players. Instead, we held a scrimmage, which turned out to be the most challenging and insightful part of the weekend. The coaching staff gathered valuable data from that experience, which will help us fine-tune our approach moving forward.
Players of the Game
While every player contributed in a big way, a few individuals stood out with performances that showcased growth, situational awareness, and commitment to their roles. For us, Player of the Game isn’t just about who scores the most points—it’s about stepping up when it matters most and playing to the fullest extent of their role.
Game 1: Darnell Wingate – 20 pts, 9 rebs, 7 asst, 60% FG, 100% FT
Game 2: Rocco Gabriel – 12 pts, 5/7 from 3PT (57%)
Game 3: Braxton Humphreys – 12 pts, 4 rebs, 1 blk, 1 stl
Game 4: Ben Hefel – 7 pts, 6 rebs
Building Chemistry & Culture
This weekend was not only about competition—it was also about acclimating to our new normal. It was a great opportunity for our new families to experience what Magic Basketball is all about. We came together in a way that strengthened our culture and reinforced our values as an organization. A huge thank you to everyone who played a part in making our newcomers feel welcome!
As we move forward, we hope this weekend set the stage for continued growth, competition, and—most importantly—fun! Game times will be posted in GameChanger as soon as they’re released. Stay locked in, and get ready for another exciting week ahead.
Go Magic! See you all soon!
