Motown Magic Weekly Recap: A Weekend of Wins and Lessons

Happy Friday, Motown Family!

Running a little late on this update—it's been a crazy week filled with travel just got in from New York working on a big project! But my commitment to keeping you all in the loop is strong, so better late than never. Plus, with another big weekend ahead, let’s get this one in fast!

Dominating the Courts – A 4-0 Weekend

Another incredible week in the Magic universe! Our boys went 4-0 over the weekend, showing out in both the Greg Grant and MWA AAU leagues. But let me tell you—bigger challenges are coming. Tougher competition is lurking in the shadows, and as we step up to face stronger, faster 8th-grade teams, we’ll see just how we measure up.

That said, we handled business against some familiar rivals, winning by 19 and 20 points in back-to-back matchups. That’s a statement. Now, it’s time to shift focus to skill-building and new growth opportunities.

Weekend Recap – Hoops & Baseball

While Coach Adam and the squad battled in the Greg Grant league, I was out in Rossford, Ohio, for an indoor baseball tournament at Total Sports Facility. My son, Deion, plays for the 11U Total Sports baseball team, so we got to compete at our home facility in Rossford. The place was bigger than I expected, packed with training sessions, soccer games, and, of course, baseball.

We made a solid run but fell short in the semi-finals by just one run. These tournaments are all about improvement and finding weaknesses to sharpen, just like we do in basketball.

Meanwhile, back home, Motown Magic was handling business: 🏀 Defeated the Pistons (Beila) 59-39 🏀 Defeated the Underdogs 51-43

Beyond the Game: Leadership & Brotherhood

This week, I was reminded that growth isn’t always routine. As we integrate new players and families into our Motown Magic family, it’s a challenge—one we have to embrace just like our athletes do on the court.

Our boys teach us so much. This week, I was reminded that while confidence is key, love is the foundation. As leaders, we must set the tone not just with our performance, but with our character.

I also challenged the team this week to protect the culture we’ve built. As we bring in new players, they must understand our standards and expectations. These values can’t come just from the coaches—they have to come from our leaders on the team. No one is bigger than the team, and that mindset has to resonate from within.

What an amazing, fast-paced week! By the time I catch my breath, it’ll be Friday again—but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
