Our standard of toughness defines who we are. Understanding what’s expected—and living up to that standard—helps every player recognize what it takes to compete at the highest level. These toughness principles directly affect the flow of the game and can shift momentum in our favor. We call this “playing the game within the game.”
⚠️ Important: Not understanding or meeting these expectations will directly impact playing time.
Scenarios & Expectations
1. No Starters Mentality: We don’t believe in “starters.” Obsessing over who starts is a sign of mental weakness and will not be tolerated. What matters most is who finishes. Lineups are built around matchups and situations—so stay ready, and when your number is called, do your job.
2. Offensive Off-Ball Movement: Always stay active—cut hard, set up your defender, use and set screens effectively. Movement creates opportunities.
3. Defensive Off-Ball Effort: Communicate, deny passes, stay physical. Wear down opponents through consistent pressure and contact.
4. No Easy Layups: Make the opponent earn every point at the foul line—unless directed otherwise.
5. Effort in Transition: Sprint back on defense every possession. Failing to do so means you’ll be subbed out.
6. Coachability: Follow directions and make in-game adjustments. Going rogue or ignoring instructions will result in being subbed out.
7. Attitude Over Talent: How you respond to adversity defines you. Adopt a “Next Play” mindset—move on and refocus.
8. Bench Etiquette: Support your teammates. Stay locked in, positive, and engaged. Lack of energy or focus on the bench will limit your minutes.
9. Rebounding: Boxing out starts with effort and positioning—not size. Winning the rebound battle comes down to toughness and execution.
10. Loose Balls: Every 50/50 ball should be ours. Diving for loose balls energizes the team and shows that you’re playing inspired. That kind of effort earns more playing time.
